Although much of electrical work takes place behind the scenes, there’s a lot that you can learn from looking at the work once finished. Little things can give you insight into how meticulous and detail-oriented they are.
Here’s what to look for when you research electricians for your new construction or residential electrical work.
Checking the Work
When you research local electricians to complete work on your residence or new construction, you want to look for professionals that take pride in their work. You may get a few recommendations from your contractors, as well as reading customer reviews online. However, nothing will give you more insight than actually inspecting their past work. If you can get access to some of their work, here’s what you need to look for to get the quality you want and deserve.
How Neat is Their Work?
The neatness of their work is a clue to their professionalism and attention to detail. You don’t need to understand how the electrical system works, but you do need to see work that is aligned and neat. Look at all the outlets, for instance. Are they straight and flush to the wall, or do they look a little crooked and messy? Little things like that will give you insight into the electrician’s attention to detail.
Organized Wiring
If you have the chance, take a look “behind the curtain,” so to speak. Being able to see how neatly and organized the wiring is installed leading up to outlets and service panels is a good indicator of the quality of their work. Cables shouldn’t look jumbled and twisted. They should run neatly, side by side, in the most direct way possible. If the work seems messy, chances are the electrician is also cutting corners and being sloppy in other areas. Being neat and orderly will increase safety, and also make it easier to repair or upgrade in the future.
